Pop-A-Lock...why we do what we do...
I am a member of a variety of networking groups.   These groups inspire me each week to continue to chase the entrepreneurial dream.  Members provide a perspective that help me think differently about the day to day business .  Last week, one of our members shared a Ted Talk speech lead by Simon Sinek.  Simon’s topic was “How great leaders inspire action”.  Listening to the video really made me think about Pop-A-Lock.  Not just what we do, or how we do it…but why…our purpose.

An excerpt from the video really explains the concept…”Every single person, every single organization on the planet knows what they do, 100 percent. Some know how they do it, whether you call it your differentiated value proposition or your proprietary process or your USP. But very, very few people or organizations know why they do what they do. And by "why" I don't mean "to make a profit." That's a result. It's always a result. By "why," I mean: What's your purpose? What's your cause? What's your belief? Why does your organization exist? Why do you get out of bed in the morning? And why should anyone care? As a result, the way we think, we act, the way we communicate is from the outside in, it's obvious. We go from the clearest thing to the fuzziest thing. But the inspired leaders and the inspired organizations — regardless of their size, regardless of their industry — all think, act and communicate from the inside out.

People don't buy what you do; people buy why you do it.

If I take this approach to our business…Pop-A-Lock instills “peace of mind” with our customers.  They can trust us, they can be assured we know what we are doing and we will get them back to their routine, or protect their business, their home and the families.  We do this by having a variety of capable people, with skills, techniques and the right equipment.  

For the longest time, I have been telling customers that Pop-A-Lock has trained, background checked employees, who wear a uniform and drive a marked vehicle.   They are equipped with the latest knowledge and tools to solve any of their problems.  And yes, that is important to people, that we can do things others can’t, but as I have witnessed on the jobs our team performs, the satisfaction and relief people express go a long way to reminding me of our purpose and that people buy why we do it.

“It was an epic Monday morning. I lost my keys. All day, night and the next day I was without my keys, I had to travel with a friend one hour just to get my house keys (thankfully). It is very hard not to have a car with three young children in various activities. 

The next day I was expecting to have to tow my car to Toyota which may have been a major problem in the underground parking. Thankfully the tow company told me about Pop a Lock! I called and the technician was available almost right away.
